Project File | A Retro-Inspired Holiday Home Shaped by Natural Stone
Some homes start with a mood board. Others start with a feeling.
This one started with stone.
From the very beginning, Arabescato Violetta became the foundation of the design direction for this retro-inspired holiday home. Rather than selecting the benchtop after cabinetry and finishes were locked in, GIA Renovations Design Manager, Olivia chose the marble first - letting its warmth, colour and movement guide every decision that followed.
As she explains, “The benchtop was one of the first finishes chosen. The client wanted a natural product for its timeless beauty, and the richness in colour and depth in the veining made Arabescato Violetta the perfect choice.”
After considering both Calacutta Viola and Rosso Levanto, Arabescato Violetta offered the best of both worlds. Its blend of violet, burgundy and soft grey tones connected the material palette and instantly set a nostalgic yet modern mood throughout the home.
In the kitchen, the marble is shaped into a sculptural oval island finished with a triple bullnose edge — a detail only achievable with real natural stone. The veining flows across the curved form, giving the island a presence that feels confident but never overwhelming. The result is a kitchen that’s warm, tactile and deeply inviting, earning the project KBDi Large Kitchen Design.
Arabescato Violetta continues into the three bathrooms and powder room, each space revealing a slightly different personality thanks to the natural variation in the slabs. Olivia notes, “I’ve specified this marble before, but the variation in every slab means it never feels like you're repeating yourself.” This individuality, paired with bold tiles and warm finishes, helped the project secure HIA Bathroom Design Eastern Victoria.
The clients wanted a holiday home that felt cosy, warm and a little retro - a place to unwind and settle into. Arabescato Violetta played a central role in creating that atmosphere. “The richness and depth in the veining, and the colours of the Arabescato Violetta, brought together the warm, inviting palette perfectly,” Olivia says. The stone complements the timber cabinetry, brass details and curved silhouettes that give the home its nostalgic charm.
Across the kitchen, bathrooms and powder room, Arabescato Violetta isn't just a surface - it's the thread that pulls the entire home together. The stone brings mood, warmth and character into every room, shaping a retreat that feels grounded, expressive and beautifully timeless.
A visit to our WK Stone showroom helped bring everything into focus. Seeing the full range of natural stone in person made it easy for Olivia and her clients to choose the Arabescato Violetta slabs that felt like the right fit for the home.
