Project File | Sustainable Surfaces for Mid-Century Living
A refined contemporary expression of mid-century modern design, this Ivanhoe East residence is a testament to what’s possible when design is led by the way we want to live. The vision was brought to life by award-winning Melbourne-based luxury home designers and builders Latitude 37. Their approach embraces layered textures, natural tones, and clean horizontal lines, complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the interiors with natural light.
The beautifully conceived kitchen is the centrepiece of the home. Latitude 37 selected our Quantum Zero surface in Champagne for the dramatic curved breakfast island, benchtops, and adjacent bar area, bringing cohesive, sculptural elegance to the heart of the house.
"We chose WK Stone's Quantum Zero Champagne for its warmth and subtle veining, which gives it a rich, natural depth. It complemented our palette beautifully while offering the durability, easy maintenance, and design flexibility essential for the space." — Jessica Otto, Interior Design Manager, Latitude 37
With a neutral palette and considered detailing, the kitchen strikes a perfect balance between softness and strength. The light, earthy tones of Quantum Zero Champagne bring a grounded, welcoming feel to the space, providing a refined counterpoint to more brutalist elements such as stone flooring and concrete-rendered walls.
Jessica explains, "Its full-bodied makeup allowed for a seamless finish across exposed edges and curved forms — essential for the elegant, well-resolved detailing we envisioned. The choice was confirmed through close collaboration with WK Stone and the client, including on-site slab selection to ensure the tone, veining, and texture aligned perfectly with the broader design narrative."
As part of WK Stone's reimagined collection and Ultra Range, the Quantum Zero range offered an exciting opportunity to incorporate an innovative, sustainable material into the project. Its natural, earthy hues and organic feel worked beautifully with the design intent, while its consistent slabs enabled sculptural detailing, including fluid curves and precise cut-outs. Beyond its visual appeal, it delivered practical benefits — being a durable surface designed for everyday living and offering design versatility.
“The consistency of the slab, combined with its organic feel and environmental credentials, made Quantum Zero Champagne a standout choice for this home.”
